As the president of AT&T Alabama, Wayne Hutchens is responsible for developing the overall strategic direction of AT&T's public policy and corporate activities across the state.
Wayne began his career in 1971 as a lineman for South Central Bell and most recently held the position of assistant vice president of regulatory and external and legislative affairs for AT&T Alabama. Prior to his previous position, Wayne served as docket/issues manager for Alabama, Louisiana, South Carolina and Tennessee. He has experience in strategic planning, tariffs and economic costs, and network operations for the company.
Wayne serves as member of the boards of directors of the Business Council of Alabama, Alabama Statewide 911, and Junior Achievement of Alabama, and he serves on the executive board of directors for the Birmingham Business Alliance. He is actively engaged in the Rotary Club of Birmingham and was named by the Birmingham Business Journal as one of Birmingham's Most Influential Executives in 2019.
Wayne holds an M.A. in Public and Private Management from Birmingham-Southern College and a B.S. in Business from Samford University. He is a native of Tennessee but has called Alabama home since 1983.
Wayne and his wife Sharon have 8 children and 16 grandchildren.
